Job Summary:
The Bank Reconciliation Accountant is responsible for performing regular cash audits and daily bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of the company’s cash balance and financial records. This role is critical in verifying cash transactions, identifying discrepancies, and resolving issues related to cash handling and banking. The position ensures the integrity of cash operations and supports the finance team with timely reporting and reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Cash Audits & Verification:
· Conduct periodic cash audits to verify physical cash balances against accounting records.
· Audit cash transactions across various departments, ensuring all receipts and disbursements are accurately recorded.
· Review and assess the effectiveness of internal controls related to cash handling and reporting.
· Investigate any discrepancies identified during audits and report findings to the Accounting Manager.
B. Bank Reconciliation:
· Perform daily bank reconciliations to ensure that cash balances match between the company’s financial records and the bank’s records.
· Ensure a timely and accurate recording of all cash-related transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, and bank charges.
· Investigate and resolve discrepancies between the company’s books and the bank statement, escalating unresolved issues to management as necessary.
· Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly cash reconciliation reports.
C. Discrepancy Investigation & Resolution:
· Identify and investigate any discrepancies between cash receipts, disbursements, and recorded transactions.
· Communicate with relevant departments or external parties to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
· Recommend improvements to cash handling procedures to reduce the risk of discrepancies.
D. Documentation & Reporting:
· Maintain detailed records of cash audits, bank reconciliations, and any investigations or resolutions related to discrepancies.
· Prepare and submit periodic reports on cash audit findings, bank reconciliation status, and any identified issues.
· Ensure proper documentation for audit trails and regulatory compliance.
E. Internal Controls & Compliance:
· Assist in ensuring compliance with internal control policies related to cash handling and reconciliation.
· Collaborate with the finance team to implement and review internal controls for better accuracy and efficiency.
· Ensure adherence to relevant financial regulations, accounting standards, and company policies.
F. Collaboration & Support:
· Work closely with other departments to gather necessary documentation for cash-related transactions.
· Provide support during audits by supplying requested information and assisting in the resolution of any audit queries.
· Support the Accounting Manager with any special cash-related projects or tasks as required.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2-4 years of experience in accounting, cash auditing, or bank reconciliation.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial transactions related to cash management.
Proficient in the use of accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve them in a timely manner.
Strong analytical and investigative skills to detect and address issues in cash handling.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and under pressure.
Good communication skills to collaborate with other departments and report discrepancies clearly.
