The Position
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely management of Beit el Baraka’s accounting activities, including daily accounting, reconciliations, closing, financial reporting, project accounting, taxation, and audit preparation.
The position ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded, supported, and compliant with Beit el Baraka’s policies, donor requirements, and applicable Lebanese laws and regulations.
Essential Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Management
- Review and record invoices, payments, receipts, journal entries, and other financial transactions, ensuring proper coding, authorization, and supporting documentation.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Perform bank, cash, petty cash, supplier, client, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and proper financial filing and documentation.
Month-End Closing and Financial Reporting
- Coordinate and perform monthly and year-end closing, including accruals, prepayments, provisions, and necessary adjustments.
- Prepare and review the Trial Balance, P&L, general ledger schedules, and other financial reports.
- Prepare Budget vs. Actual, cash flow, expenditure, and variance analyses for management.
- Investigate accounting discrepancies and ensure timely resolution.
Budget and Project Accounting
- Monitor organizational and project budgets, expenditures, advances, and settlements.
- Ensure project expenses are correctly allocated to grants, projects, and budget lines and comply with donor requirements.
- Support project financial reporting, forecasts, and financial projections.
- Coordinate inventory accounting, stock reconciliations, and periodic stock counts with relevant departments.
Payroll, Tax & Compliance
- Record and reconcile payroll and staff-related costs and ensure proper allocation to projects and budget lines.
- Prepare and support VAT, tax declarations, and other statutory financial requirements in accordance with Lebanese regulations.
- Monitor statutory deadlines and maintain complete supporting documentation.
Audit & Internal Controls
- Coordinate with external auditors and prepare required reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure accounting records remain complete, accurate, authorized, and audit-ready.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, donor requirements, internal controls, and segregation of duties.
- Identify financial or control gaps and recommend improvements.
Coordination & Systems
- Work closely with Finance, HR, Procurement, Programs, Operations, and project teams on financial and accounting matters.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in Beit el Baraka’s ERP system and ensure consistency of financial data across relevant modules.
- Support the CFO with financial analysis, reporting, reconciliations, and other financial matters as required.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of financial and organizational information.
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Accountability
Reports Directly To: Chief Financial Officer
Works Directly With: Finance Team, HR, Procurement, Programs, Operations, Senior Management, Project Teams, External Auditors, and other relevant stakeholders.
Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or another relevant field.
- Minimum four years of relevant professional accounting experience, preferably including experience at Senior Accountant level.
- Strong knowledge of the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, month-end closing, and financial reporting.
- Good knowledge of Lebanese VAT, taxation, and applicable statutory financial requirements.
- Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, and Budget vs. Actual reporting.
- Experience with project or grant accounting and donor-funded programs is highly desirable.
- Experience working with ERP or accounting systems; experience with Odoo is an advantage.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and ability to work with financial data and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with different departments.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality in handling financial information.
- Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken.
Success Factors
A successful Senior Accountant demonstrates strong technical accounting knowledge, accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail. The position requires the ability to manage multiple financial activities and deadlines while maintaining high standards of compliance and documentation.
The successful candidate will be proactive in identifying discrepancies and improving financial processes, able to work effectively with different departments, and committed to ensuring transparent, accountable, and responsible financial management in support of Beit el Baraka's programs and operations.
Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions
The position is based in Beirut, Lebanon. The role is primarily office-based and may require occasional travel to Beit el Baraka's operational areas, project locations, banks, government offices, auditors, or other relevant locations as required.
