The Palestinian Working Woman Society for Development (PWWSD) is a Palestinian grassroots non-governmental organization working since 1981 with and for Palestinian women, with the aim of promoting women’s empowerment, gender equality, human rights, and social and economic development. PWWSD works across all governorates in the West Bank and Gaza, with its Headquarters in Ramallah and community centers in Bethlehem, Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarem and Gaza.

PWWSD is seeking to recruit a full-time Experienced Accountant based at its Ramallah Headquarters.

Job Summary

PWWSD is looking for an experienced, highly organized, and detail-oriented Experienced Accountant to join its finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial records, supporting project financial management, preparing financial reports, monitoring budgets, and ensuring compliance with applicable financial policies, procedures, and Palestinian tax regulations.

The position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and proven experience in managing accounting functions within a dynamic NGO environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and ensure the accurate and timely recording of daily accounting transactions and maintain well-organized supporting documentation.
  • Review accounting entries, invoices, payment requests, and supporting documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, proper authorization, and compliance with organizational procedures.
  • Ensure that invoices and financial transactions comply with applicable legal and tax requirements and are properly recorded in the accounting system.
  • Prepare, review, and process payments to suppliers, consultants, service providers, and other creditors, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  • Manage project and branch cash boxes, monitor cash balances, and ensure proper documentation and reconciliation of cash transactions.
  • Prepare and review monthly bank reconciliations and investigate and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting closing processes and ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded within established deadlines.
  • Prepare and/or review monthly financial reports for projects and the organization, ensuring accuracy and consistency with approved budgets.
  • Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets and identify significant variances or potential budget issues.
  • Support Project Managers and program teams in budget monitoring, financial planning, expenditure tracking, and budget revisions when required.
  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets, financial forecasts, and cash-flow projections.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of fixed assets and support periodic verification and reconciliation of assets.
  • Prepare monthly payments to creditors and suppliers and ensure the timely remittance and proper recording of statutory deductions in accordance with Palestinian tax laws.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers and relevant staff to plan and prioritize payments related to suppliers, services, utilities, consultants, and project activities.
  • Support the Finance Manager in monthly and annual financial closing activities.
  • Prepare project staff timesheets, salary slips, and other payroll-related financial documents as required.
  • Support the preparation of financial documentation required for internal and external audits and donor financial reviews.
  • Ensure that project financial records and supporting documentation are maintained in an organized and audit-ready manner.
  • Follow up on outstanding advances, receivables, payables, and other financial balances and ensure timely clearance and reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with PWWSD financial policies, procedures, donor requirements, and applicable Palestinian financial and tax regulations.
  • Identify accounting discrepancies, financial risks, and control weaknesses and report them to the Finance Manager.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to program and project staff regarding financial procedures, documentation, and budget implementation.
  • Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned by the Finance Manager or senior management.

متطلبات الوظيفة

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in accounting, preferably within an NGO/development organization.
  • Proven experience in project accounting, financial reporting, budget monitoring, and financial documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and financial procedures.
  • Good knowledge of Palestinian tax regulations and statutory deductions.
  • Experience with donor-funded projects and financial reporting requirements is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with finance, program, and project teams.
  • Strong integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and commitment to professional ethical standards.
  • Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience in the Bisan accounting system.
  • Experience with accounting software and financial management systems is an asset.
