Job Title: Senior Accountant (Acting as Accounting Manager)
Reporting to: General Manager (GM) and External Auditing Firm
Location: Lebanon
Department: Accounting
Job Purpose
The Senior Accountant, serving as the acting Accounting Manager, is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations in alignment with Lebanese legal and tax requirements. This includes managing financial records, preparing VAT and income tax declarations, and ensuring full compliance with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) regulations and audit readiness. The role serves as a key liaison between the company, external auditors, and tax authorities.
- Key Responsibilities
A. Financial Accounting & Reporting
Maintain a full and accurate General Ledger (GL), sub-ledgers, and trial balances.
Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS and Lebanese GAAP.
Manage monthly and year-end closing processes, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
Ensure accuracy and proper classification of all financial transactions.
B. VAT & MoF Tax Compliance
Prepare, review, and file quarterly or monthly VAT declarations in accordance with Lebanese VAT Law (including VAT on imports, reverse charge mechanism, and exemptions).
Monitor VAT input/output accounts, reconcile balances, and manage VAT refunds or credits with the MoF.
Prepare and submit the annual corporate income tax declaration (Form B1), including all required annexes and supporting documents.
Manage and file monthly or quarterly withholding tax (WHT) declarations on payments to suppliers and contractors.
Ensure accurate calculation and documentation of tax on interest, foreign services, and non-resident payments.
Liaise with MoF tax inspectors during tax audits and assessments.
C. Audit & Compliance Management
Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
Prepare audit schedules, GL analysis, and supporting documentation.
Implement internal controls in line with audit findings and financial best practices.
Ensure books and records are kept in accordance with the Lebanese Code of Commerce and MoF requirements.
D. Fixed Assets & Inventory
Maintain a detailed Fixed Asset Register and calculate depreciation according to Lebanese tax codes.
Supervise periodic physical inventory counts and ensure proper reconciliation with accounting records.
Maintain the inventory movement register in accordance with MoF standards.
E. Documentation & Filing
Maintain proper archiving of financial records (physical and electronic) for 10 years as per MoF guidelines.
Ensure that all invoices, contracts, credit notes, and supporting documents are filed and ready for tax audits.
- Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum 7–10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
