Senior Project Accountant
Location: Qatar
Contract Type: Long-term contract (renewable)

The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Project Accountant to support complex project finance operations within a major energy operator’s portfolio. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine financial advisory, cost control, reporting, and strategic budgeting for multi-million-dollar projects in a dynamic international environment.

You'll be a key finance interface between internal departments and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and insight in all aspects of project accounting—ideal for professionals with a solid SAP background and strong analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial activities across major projects

  
  

• Lead resolution of complex and non-routine accounting issues, providing expert advice and recommendations

  
  

• Prepare and review Gross Cost Reports, Operating Reports, and detailed cost analyses

  
  

• Review project costs, invoices, SES, and ensure compliance with corporate processes and authority limits

  
  

Budgeting, Forecasting & Controls

• Prepare project accruals and accounting adjustments; reconcile accounts and explain key variances

  
  

• Analyse and forecast project cash requirements; manage funding, cash call and billing cycles

  
  

• Develop inputs for Work Plan and Budget (WP&B), including expenditure phasing and headcount projections

  
  

• Compile WP&B management packs with variance analysis versus previous submissions

  
  

Stakeholder Interface & Advisory

• Collaborate with Asset Accounting and Venture Controlling to ensure reporting accuracy

  
  

• Engage internal and external stakeholders to gather sensitive financial data and advise on commercial/shareholder agreements

  
  

• Construct and validate financial models for budgeting and billing support

  
  

• Support shareholder query resolution and inventory movement analysis

  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Commercial discipline

  
  

• OR any degree + a recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CA, CFA, CIMA, CMA, CPA)

  
  

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting and finance roles

  
  

• Proficiency in SAP FI/CO required; experience with BPC, BW, and Project Systems highly preferred

  
  

• Strong command of English (written and verbal)

  
  

• Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project) and financial systems

  
  

• High attention to detail, organisational compliance mindset, and analytical ability
