Job Location: Damascus
Job Purpose
To be responsible for maintaining accurate bookkeeping within the accounting system and recording all financial transactions in a timely and systematic manner. The Finance Accounts Officer prepares accounting ledgers, maintains balances, and conducts regular reconciliations with banks, the treasurer, and the Grants Department. The post holder ensures financial compliance with the Syrian laws and the relevant governmental institutions policies , Social Insurance and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
Key Responsibilities
- Record daily financial transactions in the accounting system, review supporting documents, and ensure all transactions are properly authorised.
- Maintain financial documentation and ensure its availability and accessibility in both hard and soft copy formats.
- Ensure that the accounting system, financial entries, and accounts comply with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Work closely with the Treasurer to monitor daily cash balances, reconcile cash movements with accounting records, and match advances and accruals on a monthly basis.
- Coordinate with the chartered accountant to provide all required financial information and ensure the smooth implementation of the organisation’s legal and financial procedures.
- Coordinate with the Human Resources Department to ensure accurate registration of employees with the Social Insurance Institution and timely submission of related financial contributions.
- Ensures financial compliance with Syrian laws and the policies of relevant governmental institutions, including the Social Insurance Institution and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports, including transaction journals, ledgers, budget versus actual (BvA) reports.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations with banks and the Grants Department and ensure proper archiving of all reconciliation documents.
- Support external audits throughout all audit phases to ensure high standards and professional audit processes.
Note: The above-mentioned key responsibilities and accountabilities are illustrative. Additional responsibilities may be assigned in the future in line with the department’s organisational structure.
Qualification (Education/Work Experience/Languages)
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, preferably in Accounting or Finance.
- A minimum of 3 years’ work experience, including at least 1 year of professional experience in accounting or financial roles within humanitarian organisations.
- Intermediate level of English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
