FINANCE COORDINATOR

About us:

  • The clearance of landmines and explosive remnants of war,
  • Provide explosive ordnance risk education to vulnerable communities, and
  • Reduce the impact of Armed Violence in communities through weapons and ammunition management initiatives.

About the role:

The Finance Coordinator supports the effective financial management of MAG’s Palestine programme from the Amman Regional Hub. The postholder ensures that budgeting, financial controls, compliance, cash management, and implementing partner oversight are delivered to MAG standards and donor requirements. The role provides specialist financial support to the Head of Mission, contributes to financial planning and forecasting, and strengthens the internal control environment across both MAG-managed and partner-delivered activities.

1. Budgeting, Planning and Forecasting

  • Prepare high-quality donor budget proposals using MAG’s Internal Budget Document (IBD), ensuring alignment with operational plans and donor rules.
  • Lead the preparation of cashflow forecasts and monthly funds transfer requests, ensuring adequate liquidity while maintaining minimum cash holdings.
  • Complete MAG’s quarterly Adaptive Insights reforecasting process, analysing expenditure trends and advising programme managers on revisions.
  • Support programme teams to understand budget lines, cost drivers, burn rates, and implications for programme delivery.

2. Financial Control and Compliance

  • Ensure all procurement and expenditure follow MAG financial procedures and comply with donor-specific requirements.
  • Maintain the Cost Allocation Policy for the pool account and monitor correct application across transactions.
  • Verify that all financial transactions are accurately coded to the correct projects, cost centres, outputs, and donor lines.
  • Conduct timely bank reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Perform and document monthly cash counts in line with MAG’s financial control standards.
  • Support the implementation of internal and external audit recommendations and strengthen control practices.

3. Financial Processing

  • Maintain, update, and reconcile cashbooks, ensuring timely uploads to MAG’s financial software.
  • Prepare and upload the monthly payroll cashbooks, ensuring payroll data is complete, authorised, and accurate.
  • Review monthly payroll calculations and ensure compliance with MAG and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts, processing journals for prepayments, accruals, and other adjustments as required.
  • Ensure all monthly financial closure procedures are completed in line with MAG’s global timelines and quality standards.
  • Maintain organised and compliant digital/physical filing systems for all financial documentation.

4. Implementing Partner Financial Oversight

  • Provide structured financial oversight and support to MAG’s local Implementing Partners (IPs).
  • Maintain regular communication with IP finance teams, providing ongoing guidance and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure partners understand and comply with MAG financial standards, donor rules, and documentation requirements.
  • Verify that IPs submit all supporting documentation for expenditures and perform checks on accuracy, eligibility, and completeness.
  • Deliver training and targeted capacity development to strengthen partner financial management systems and controls.
  • Support partner assessments, spot checks, and follow-up actions to address identified gaps.

5. Regional Hub Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Regional Office Coordinator (ROC) to ensure strong financial management across the Hub and Sub-Office locations.
  • Support standardisation and quality assurance of financial processes across the region.
  • Contribute to improving financial workflows, documentation systems, and coordination between operational and support teams.
  • Provide surge support or temporary coverage for other programmes supported from the Hub, as required.

About You:

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of financial management experience in NGO, development, or humanitarian settings.
  • Strong understanding of donor compliance requirements (e.g., USG, EU, UN agencies).
  • Proficiency in financial software and MS Excel; experience with budgeting and forecasting tools.
  • Experience conducting financial reconciliations, journals, and month-end closures.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or overseeing implementing partners.
  • Ability to analyse financial data, identify risks, and propose practical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to train others.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
