Background
Life and Hope Association (LHA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, and independent organization established in Gaza in 1996. LHA works to support the development and empowerment of its beneficiaries, promoting a sustainable society through active participation, with a focus on youth, children, and other vulnerable groups.  LHA is implementing multiple projects in partnership with INGOs across various sectors. Accordingly, the organization seeks to hire a Full -time accountant.

LHA does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, or any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.

LHA is recruiting candidates for the following positions

Position Title: Accountant – Full Time

Duty Station: LHA Office – Jabalia

Reports to: Finance Manager

Contract Duration: 5 months

Starting Date:   As soon as possible

 

Responsibilities:

Manage and control project budgets, monitor actual expenditures and remaining balances, and compare them with approved project budgets.

  • Implement financial operations in accordance with the association’s approved policies and procedures and contribute to their development.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all required documentation for financial transactions and project- or organizational-related procurements.
  • Prepare project financial reports and submit them to the association’s management and donors within the specified deadlines.
  • Record all accounting and financial transactions, including journal entries, payment vouchers, and receipt vouchers, in the accounting system and attach them to related financial documents.
  • Prepare monthly financial expenditure plans for the organization’s projects.
  • Coordinate with project coordinators to prepare and update monthly cash flow plans for each project.
  • Work with project coordinators to prepare procurement plans in line with work plans and follow up on their implementation.
  • Follow up on the issuance of checks and bank transfers related to project accounts.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for project bank accounts.
  • Ensure the application of best financial practices and procedures in all financial transactions related to project activities.
  • Assist in procurement procedures related to the organization and its projects.
  • Follow up on procurement processes with project coordinators, monitor performance, and ensure compliance with the association’s approved financial and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Review staff attendance records, verify the accuracy of supporting documents, record monthly leave balances, and calculate incentives and deductions for project staff.
  • Document and archive project financial transactions, both in hard copy and electronically, in accordance with the association’s systems, regulations, and donor policies.
  • Review all financial documents and ensure their accuracy before submitting financial reports to the association’s management.
  • Assist in resolving any financial issues related to projects.
  • Contribute to relevant monitoring and evaluation tasks.
  • Comply with the internal regulations and policies of the Community Training and Crisis Management Center Association.
  • Work in accordance with applicable laws and administrative regulations of the association, the Palestinian Ministry of Interior, and other relevant governmental bodies.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Conditions:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field from a recognized university.
  • At least two (2) years of experience working with non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience working with accounting software, specifically Al Aseel.
  • Residency in North/Gaza governorate is required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of the laws governing NGOs in the Gaza Strip.
  • Ability to work under pressure, during emergencies, and under varying working conditions, as well as within a team.
  • High proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to handle work pressure and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports in English.
